Grand Opening Celebration

Limestone Federal Credit Union Hosted the Grand Opening Celebration of The Hub @ LSSU on The Campus of Lake Superior State University

Upper Peninsula, Mich. – Limestone Federal Credit Union (Limestone FCU) hosted a grand opening celebration of The Hub @ LSSU (The Hub), an on-campus credit union serving Chippewa County, MI. The new branch is an extension of Limestone FCU and is located on the campus of Lake Superior State University (LSSU).

The celebration was held during move-in week, August 22, 2023, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony performed by the Sault Sainte Marie Chamber of Commerce (SMSCC). Attendees enjoyed music, networking with area businesses, snacks and beverages, and speeches given by Jennifer C. Watson, CEO of Limestone FCU, and James Blanchard, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Limestone FCU. Story boards and booklets were displayed around the branch sharing the history of the credit union and the story of The Hub @ LSSU, while also describing its initiative for the community.

“I am thrilled that Limestone FCU is moving forward by expanding to Sault Ste. Marie and to provide students and this community with an opportunity to grow financially and to learn more about the importance of financial education. Each employee played a significant role in the initiative of The Hub @ LSSU and I couldn’t be prouder of our team for their dedication to the future of the credit union. Since our expansion to Chippewa County, the community has been extremely welcoming. Thank you to all for allowing us to continue serving the Upper Peninsula and to plant new roots in Sault Ste. Marie.” Jennifer C. Watson, CEO of Limestone FCU.

The Hub is a micro branch with an ITM (Interactive Teller Machine) serving as the cash solution. The ITM can withdraw and deposit cash or checks while also serving as an ATM with a special feature: virtual assistance – like a FaceTime or video call. Members of the credit union can chat with Limestone FCU employees about anything related to their account during office hours. Being on campus will give students an opportunity to attend classes while conveniently having access to their banking needs and opportunities to grow in their career through our Internship Program. The Hub will be entirely run by Interns led by the full-time Branch Manager, Chelsey Zeeryp, a local to Chippewa County.

“I am so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the journey of The Hub @ LSSU. Our collaboration with Lake Superior State University has been one of mutual love for education with a mission to educate our members on financials.” Chelsey Zeeryp, Branch Manager of The Hub @ LSSU.

While being located on the campus of LSSU, The Hub will be focused on providing students with an opportunity to be better educated on finances as they transition to adulthood. The Hub plans to offer financial educational series and events later this semester.

“Being the first Intern at The Hub creates growth and connections between LSSU and The Hub. Everyone has been so positive and helpful with my internship. It’s encouraging me to grow my financial literacy.” Samantha Lee, Intern at The Hub @ LSSU.

The team at The Hub @ LSSU is thrilled to get to know the students, faculty, alumni of LSSU and the community of Chippewa County and to provide opportunities for members and future members to grow in their knowledge of finances.
